Since 2021, Steven Howe has served as the State Representative for the people of Kansas' 71st District. During his first term in office Representative Howe served on three committees: Federal & State Affairs, Transportation, and Insurance & Pensions.
Beginning on January 9, 2023, Representative Howe will serve as Chairman of the Higher Education Budget Committee and will serve as a member of the Appropriations Committee.
Outside of the Legislature, Steven works as a licensed commercial pesticide applicator. Steven and his wife Tamara also own and operate the Tamara Howe School of Dance, LLC in downtown Salina for the past sixteen years.
Additionally, Steven serves as the Republican Committeeman for Precinct 20 and has previously served on community boards including Salina Downtown, Inc., the Salina Childcare Association, and as an Elder at Christ the King Lutheran Church.
Rep. Howe is no stranger to public service. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Speech from Kansas State University, Howe served Kansans by working on the official staff of two Kansas Congressmen on Capitol Hill and in Salina (Jerry Moran 2003-2010; Tim Huelskamp 2011-2017). “It was an honor of a lifetime to be able to serve Kansans. I started as an intern right out of college and was eventually promoted to district director in Salina where I led constituent services and outreach for one of the largest congressional districts in the United States.”
Steven and his wife Tamara are parents to four boys and one girl and are blessed to call Salina home.
